Fred Welk is an expert in the formation and nurturing of the “Main Street” small businesses that represent 96% of all American firms. Since 2013, he’s served startup and growing small businesses as a coach and educator across Connecticut. He currently serves as Director of Business Development at CEDF and is responsible for the company’s business education programming.

Fred collaborates with government economic development leaders and CEDF’s bank investors to build awareness of how a community lender can design flexible, affordable financing solutions mitigating the barriers of troubled credit history, or limited collateral and time in business.

Fred is an adjunct lecturer at CT State Community College – Gateway and has taught a variety of entrepreneurship, marketing and accounting application courses. Previously, he spent three decades in specialty retailing and franchise development, running his own enterprise for 23 years.
